Truth be told, I expected the Penguins to lose today...............coming off an afternoon game, with the travel nightmare of coming in late, on top of a noon face off and facing the leagues hottest team, all the stars aligned for a road loss. The Penguins bigger game despite all of the hype was the game they blew yesterday, playing a Montreal team trying to catch them in the standings, missing their top scorer and with 6 minor leaguers in the lineup. That should have been two points in the bank, and they blew that one with poor defensive play, poor goaltending, and a generally weak effort. Now, back to today..............My expectations were changed as the Pens came out and dominated the game, taking a 4-1 lead and outplaying the Caps. My fear is this........even up 4-1, I had very little confidence that our defense and Fleury could protect that lead, and KNEW that if we could not get a 5th or even 6th goal that we would lose. The defense got sloppy AGAIN, and Fleury could not make the big save AGAIN. You would normally be happy to take a point on a back to back game on the road with such a short turn around against a great team...........but getting only point after leading 4-1 is indicative of the issues on this team. I am not a huge Fleury lover..........not a hater, but I think he is very over rated. They need better defense to have any chance to go past the second round in the spring time.........period.......oh, and though Malkin had two assists today, this was the kind of game where the second head of the two headed monster would have meant a lot.......just sayin. I also think as much as I love the guy, they are getting a bit hurt by Guerin right now......maybe some rest from the Olympic break will do BBG some good, and he can come out firing..........
Finally, on the topic of the hated Craps, their coach, their fans etc.......Fatass Gabby Boudreau is the whiniest little worm in coaching.....I loved how he blew a gasket after Adams gave Ovechkin a SMALL dose of his own medicine with a very minor boarding call.....he could have lit Ovie up, and after all of the charging, boarding, and knee on knee hits from Ovagkin, maybe should have, but did not.............Boudreau was nastier than the time they forgot his sixth Big Mac at McDonalds......after the game he had the audacity to say he hoped Orpik was not whining about the chickenshit call when he and jizz exchanged high sticks resulting in the power play in OT that led to the game winner......it was a penalty.......but for a team full of whiners to have the COACH worried about that.........well Gabby, I cannot wait until 4/6 when you visit the Mellon Arena......You mention several times in your book that you are very sensitive about your weight.........get out your Kleenex, cause my section is gonna make you cry! The fans in DC are already quite sure they have the Cup sewn up...........they have won 14 and look invincible, right? Well the 92-93 Pens had the longest regular season winning streak at 17, and I for one thought that the playoffs that year were merely a formality to set up the night when the Pens would hoist their 3 rd straight cup.......Enter the very mediocre NY Islanders and one David Volek, and the Pens did not escape the second round......and it hurt........bad.............heres to hoping all of DC gets to taste the bitter pill x 10! One can also look at the San Jose Sharks and Boston Bruins of last year to know that supremacy in the winter does not always or even mostly leasd to the hardware in early summer!
