This , DUH look has kind of summed up Geno's season this year, and the Pens performance since Christmas time. I had really hoped that showing up finally for the last 15 minutes of the game against Edmonton to pull out a win against a horrible team would provide a spark for this team since it followed the ONLY QUALITY ( v Calgary the other nite)win the Pens have had since Christmas time. Even the news that we were going to have to start Curry in the place of Fleury or Johnson had some promise to it. I thought that the defense would pull together out of necessity and do something to "protect" the goaltender given the obvious decline in the level of skill that they are accustomed to in the net. Guess again, and yes, Curry was not sharp, but he was also under siege constantly after the first few minutes..............I also thought that the offensive players would recognize that this could be a shootout type of game, and combine that with the fact that this will also be the venue for the Olympics in less than a month, and they would come out firing..................Again, guess again............if they would have only gotten two past Luongo because he had to stand on his head, then that is one thing, but the fact that they only got two by him because they never really challenged him, well that is quite another..............the power play, well it only had 2 chances, and that is another subject as it should have had several more, BUT the fact that it was 0 for 2, and gave up a shorty that seemed to open the floodgates for Vancouver, it again was a big part of the loss............Finally, I really had hoped that Sid was going to put on a show, given the venue, and you cant criticize his overall play, but I thought last night he would have put on a show. It looked like a phoned in effort, again, and I can tell you this much..........If this is the team that shows up Thursday against the Capitals, or the following weekend against the Flyers and Rangers, they will be blown out of the building.........Note to players..........there will be no coach firing this year, so you "leaders" will have to figure out a way to get it going again...........this is starting to feel a bit too much like last year, and they cannot expect to destroy the league from post Olympics through April again. Geno Malkin, it is well past time for you to handle your responsibilities on the ice.......you are paid the same as Crosby, and your 8.7 million dollar salary means no money for top notch wingers......this team has been built to win based on the offensive performance of its two "superstar" centers.........when only one has shown up, it will not bode well for the team...time for a second half push!
