The Penguins recorded their 12th straight victory in a hard fought game, that was much tougher than the 5-2 score would indicate. Alex Goligoski netted his 4th game winner of the season tonight, tying a franchise record for GWG from a defenseman. Crosby continued his point scoring streak with an assist on said goal, running that streak to 18 games. Dustin Jeffrey, despite being miscast on the fourth line produced a goal and an assist in his first game of the season. An insurance goal by Rupp and an empty netter by Cooke closed out the scoring in a surprisingly nasty game between the Pens and the Sabres. Another game also that the Pens give up 2 or less goals. As for the Penguins defense, they are now 3rd in the league, giving up only 2.29 goals per game, and the two teams ahead of them have goaltenders ranked at the top of the league in save percentage with Tim Thomas of Boston at .954 and Carey Price at .935. The Pens are also 5th in the league in giving up shots per game at 28.7. Add to that Kris Letang is second on the team in scoring with 26 points, and he is +18, while Alex Goligoski is 5th on the team 16 points and is a +16. Add to that, he has four game winning goals on the season. As Paul Martin gets more acclimated, he will begin to challenge with some strong offensive numbers. Now we look forward to a big time clash with the equally hot Philadelphia Flyers. This is the type of game where the lack of scoring from the second line, and namely Evgeni Malkin has the chance to bite the Penguins in the backside. Go Pens!!
